EVQM—EyeNet STB QoS Agent Monitoring System

Dekscom EyeNet Video Quality Monitoring System (EVQM) is a IP video terminal QoS agent based video service quality assurance system. The system adopts multi-level distributed data acquisition and aggregation architecture design. A single EVQM system can support data acquisition and management, real-time KPI calculation and analysis for up to 20 million STB QoS agents.

The core components of EVQM system include: EVQA software agents embedded in various video terminals, such as STB, smartphone and Pad; EVQM acquisition servers which collects IP video KPI data reported by EVQA software agents through TR-069 protocol, EVQM servers perform summary KPI statistics, and further upload the summary data to the EVQMaster central management server; the EVQMaster central server performs unified authentication and scheduling management for all the EVQA agents, correlates the IP video QoS/QoE data uploaded by EVQM servers, and performs multi-dimensional KPI statistics and reporting for various video quality aspects.

EVQA software agent acquisition KPIs

The EVQA software agent can comprehensively collect IP video service quality, network performance and user behavior data, including the following metrics:

•     User Behavior Statistics: Power-on time and count, Viewing duration, Program URL, VoD views, LiveTVs views, EPG page accesses.
•     User’s QoE Metrics: video MOS, Re-buffering time and count, First buffering time, Channel switching delay.
•     HLS Video QoS Metrics: OV-Score, Segment download time variation (s), Segment distance variation (s), Segment bitrate changes, Video server changes.
•     IPTV video QoSMetrics: MDI: LR and DF, ETSI TR101-290 first and second priority events.
•     EPG QoS Metrics: EPG success ratio, EPG page response time, EPG page load time.
•     Video Server QoS Metrics: HTTP response time, HTTP throughput, HTTP error codes (5xx), M3U8 request success rate, M3U8 response delay.
•     IP Network QoS Metrics: RTP packet loss, RTP jitter, RFC3357 packet loss pattern KPIs, TCP connection time, TCP retransmissions, TCP duplications, TCP Resets, TCP Low Windows.
•     STB QoS Metrics: CPU utilization, Memory utilization, HTTP error codes (4xx), WiFi strength.

The Key Applications and Function of the EVQM system

The EVQM system provides non-intrusive IP video service quality management, optimization and troubleshooting, based on passive monitoring (eg. packet capture) on wire-line or Wi-Fi port of the IP video terminals.

•     CDN / networkQoS and video QoE correlation management: It can quickly diagnose various CDN, network and terminal faults that cause the IP video service quality degradation. It can correlate the impact of CDN platform and IP bearer network QoS indicators to IP video user experience quality (QoE).
•     Proactive video quality management: To achieve proactive IP video services quality management, it can provide early warning mechanism for major IP video platforms or network faults, and batch user fault alarms can be generated based on various dimensions, such as CDN vendor, geographical area, and terminal type.
•     Fast video problem troubleshooting: Provide fast video terminal user service quality complaint handling process, which can easily isolate IP video platform and network faults and reduce fault repair time.
•     IP Video network resource planning and optimization: Supports KPI statistics and daily / weekly/ monthly reporting for IP video service across the entire network and regions, including: IP video overall service operation, overall service quality, CDN and EPG server performance, IP network performance, and user online distribution pattern, provide an effective reference for the IP video network planning and the video business performance optimization work.
